Leonardo Portrait(Reconstruction - sketch)

I was commissioned to do a classical oil portrait of ‘the young Leonardo’, and this is the first general idea for it. It was approved by the client, which means I can now continue adding a few more compositional details and refine everything before transferring it to canvas.

[ This sketch did not make it to canvas in the end, as it was replaced by a simpler, more traditional portrait pose ]

Renaissance
(Reconstruction)

'Love shows itself more in adversity than in prosperity; doing as light does, which shines most where the place is darkest.' ~ Leonardo da Vinci

Another portrait of Leonardo, this time - as suggested by quite a number of people - in Renaissance style. It is documented what he used to wear, by eyewitnesses as well as by himself in his notebooks: aside from the standard white shirts, there’s rose coloured tunics, Chamois leather doublets and hoses, Cordova leather boots, and fur lined coats…

PREVIEW(work in progress)
I’ll be posting some notebook excerpts again soon, but in the meantime I figured it would be fun for some of you to see just how messy my own work starts out. This baby is of course another reconstruction, and about an hour or so old (sketch not counted, and what you see is just a crop).
Still pondering if I should do this one in a more renaissance style, or modern again. Thoughts, anyone?
[ EDIT: Thanks for all the responses! I’ve settled on Renaissance, as most of you wanted. :) ]

Untitled(Reconstruction)
Seeing that I rarely seem to draw or paint Leonardo face on, because his nose is just so much more magnificent in profile, this one felt strange for quite some time. - It was meant to be much lighter, but somehow I always end up going back to the spectrum of shadows that Leonardo played with so much in his own work…

I Giorni
(Reconstruction)

Another painting, modern again - maybe because I’ve not yet found authentic Renaissance clothes I find suitable or appealing, or maybe because I like to imagine what he might have looked like if he lived today.

The title is taken from a piece of music by Ludovico Einaudi.

Another sketch of Leonardo. Originally I didn’t want to show this - or any other sketches I’ve done of him lately - but some lovely people over on my Facebook page convinced me otherwise. :)

A modern Leonardo, as usual based on the real thing. Just a really quick sketch that happened this morning, so I thought I’d share. :)
